Fun Food Facts!


One of the best things about food is; it can never be boring. It comes in all shapes, sizes, forms, tastes, textures and from all over the world. Food is interesting; where it comes from, how it’s prepared and how it’s evolved over the decades. Here are some interesting facts about food that we’ve come across. Some of these facts are just plain weird, but they are sure to entertain.

The banana is not actually a fruit, it’s a berry! The banana tree is considered a giant herb and it only produces one bunch or “hand” in its life cycle.

A row of corn always has an even number of kernels.

Nearly 27 million Americans eat McDonald’s - per day!!

Peanuts are one of the ingredients in dynamite.

Rice is a staple food for more than 1 half of the world’s population.

Worcestershire sauce is made from dissolved anchovies that have been soaked in vinegar.

Tipping at a restaurant in Iceland is considered an insult.

Ketchup was sold in the 1830’s as medicine.

Pepperoni is America’s favourite pizza topping. Japan’s is squid. Australians prefer eggs. The French like fresh cream.

During the Middle Ages, a lemon slice was served with fish because it was thought the juice would dissolve any bones that were accidentally swallowed.
